Making it all Work ! - Export Retouching Presets & Movie Tutorial (cont'd)
| The previous pages showed how to create, transfer and set up your new Lightroom Retouching Export Presets, so now let's make use of them and see how truly powerful they can be! |
8) Back in Lightroom's Develop or Library mode, you can select the Export with Preset option, and choose from your new Preset Workflows! You'll find that even though you made various adjustments in Lightroom, you'll still want to make use of some of the extended controls that are built into the Production Assistant Actions for enhanced creativity.
 9) To work on a group of images, simply Select All (or just the images you want), and then send them out to Export with your desired Preset Workflow. This is perfect for portrait or wedding sessions where you have many images needing the same attention in Photoshop, after you have made your initial adjustments in Adobe Lightroom.

With Hard Drive space now so inexpensive, sending a large group of images in a fully automated workflow and then deleting the unwanted ones saves huge amounts of time over individual custom production workflows.
Here we made use of the Portrait UltraSoft +1, which applies the full softness treatment I want for this portrait, and also provides the equivalent of a One Stop exposure adjustment in a manner that is much more refined that a slider, and very complimentary to our lovely subject Nichole. |

In our Dump files, you can see the Lightroom Export Image, as well as the three image versions saved from our fully automated workflow production.
The PSD is full resolution without any destructive sharpening, exactly what you want for any further production requirements.
The Print image can be saved to your choice of JPG, Tiff (or any other format), it's default size is an album sized image, but can be full-res just as easily, while the Web Image is prepped and optimized for screen / web and slideshow presentations. |

Our Before and After images show how we started, with a full toned, lower contrast image that was color & exposure optimized in Lightroom, and then further produced with the essential selective softening techniques and other enhancement techniques applied in Photoshop using Craig's Production Assistant Workflow Actions!

Our session here, show with Nichole in the Nevada Desert, consists of 84 images.
Image files were from the Nikon D3, NEF format and processed in16bit mode.
On a MacBook Pro (10.5, 2.6 Ghz Intel, 4GB Ram) Lightroom took 6 minutes (4.3 seconds/ image) to perform its' conversion and Exports, and then Photoshop took another ~16 minutes (12sec/image) for all further creative and output production.
Meanwhile, I was doing something else...
All our Print, Web and PSD backup image files were completely produced from Raw to final client imagery in less than 17sec each!
